Befunky and High-Hand

Online photo editing software Befunky.com’s new Delux Editions Digital Art Effects took my old iPhone’s snapshots to a new level.  These images were taken from the first hazy day of Autumn in Loomis, California’s High Hand Nursery, beautiful in the golden afternoon sun.

Befunky offers enough free tools to make the best emerge from digital images, but each of these three came from a combination of free and purchased tools.  After cropping, straightening, and adjusting light and color, the major shift in the aesthetic appeal of the images came with Befunky’s Underpainting DLX.  Befunky had an underpainting option prior to the DLX, but it lacked the etherial quality of the new version, a light smoothness that reminds me of Georgia O’Keefe’s floating bones.

High Hand has an intriguing collection of pottery from Lincoln, California’s Gladding, McBean,  a historical giant thats legacy ranges from the terra cotta tiled roofs above Stanford University, to many of the sewer pipes below.

High Hand also keeps an array of succulents, which I recently and randomly learned are trending in living jewelry.  A quick Etsy search verified it.  But as for digital photography, the geometry and sappy thickness of  the pudgy leaves illuminate ombre in the afternoon sun and serve as an engaging subject.  Enjoy!
